Scientist in the Spotlight: Materials science/Aquatic biology

  • 10 Mar 2018
  • 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM (CST)
  • Bradbury Science Museum 1350 Central Ave, Los Alamos, NM 87544, USA

These activities are designed for those of all ages.

Come and interact with LANL's Scientist Ambassadors on cool topics!

Marvelous Morphing Materials
Think of all the things you interact with every day. Almost all of them began in one form (think of white beach sand) but were manipulated into something else (the aluminum skin of an airplane wing). How that is done depends the properties of the material involved and the end goal. Everything that you use came from the earth and was changed to become a useful tool or item. Join Bev Aikin, with the Lab’s Weapons Systems Surveillance group, so you can play with multiple materials and learn what happens to them under different conditions.

Aquatic biology
Stop by and learn about some of the different things that could be as close as the nearest puddle or pond. Jane Clements, of the Bradbury Science Museum, will help answer the questions: What’s living in your water? and Do you want to get them out?
